Our Story

Over two decades of nurturing young minds in Saugus

Shining Stars Learning Center was founded in 2002 by Trish Murphy, who began caring for children right in her own home. What started as a small, loving environment quickly grew as families recognized the exceptional care their children received.

With the support of co-founders Christine (Director) and Sue (Assistant Director) — both present from day one — Shining Stars expanded from Trish's home to Central Street, then to the Evans School on East Denver Street, and finally to our current home in beautiful Cliftondale Square.

Today, our newly renovated building is filled with the same warmth and dedication that started it all. Several of our staff members have been with us since opening day, and we're proud that some of our former students have returned to join our team.

Our Philosophy & Curriculum

Honoring each child's unique way of learning and growing

Multiple Intelligences

Our approach is grounded in Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. We recognize that every child is unique — each developing physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively at their own pace. We tailor our approach to each child's development, interests, abilities, culture, and learning style.

Literacy-Based Curriculum

As a participant in the Department of Early Education and Care grant, we use the Literacy-Based CLI/Bluprint for Early Learning across all classrooms. Our pre-school classrooms also incorporate the Lively Letters Phonemic Awareness Program to build strong reading foundations.

Communication

We believe in strong parent-teacher partnerships. Through the Brightwheel messaging system, phone availability throughout the day, in-person conversations at pickup and dropoff, and regular parent-teacher conferences, we keep families connected and informed.

Infant Program

6 weeks – 15 months

A warm, nurturing environment where our youngest learners feel safe to explore. Personalized care routines and sensory-rich experiences support early development.

Younger Toddlers

15 months – 2 years

Active exploration and discovery through play. Toddlers build language skills, social awareness, and confidence in a safe and stimulating classroom.

Older Toddlers

2 – 3 years

Building independence and early learning skills. Children engage in creative art, music, movement, and beginning literacy activities.

Pre-School

3 – 5 years

Kindergarten readiness through the CLI/Bluprint curriculum and Lively Letters Phonemic Awareness. Children develop critical thinking, early reading, and social skills.
